Evolution Day instead of Ascension Day!
Posted on May 20th, 2009 6 commentsOn the occasion of the Darwin year which we are currently celebrating (200 years ago Charles Darwin was born and 150 years ago his book “On The Origin Of Species” was published), the people behind the german website www.darwin-jahr.de started a campaign to change the german holidays act. On that site they demand to rename the german holiday „Ascension Day “ into „Evolutions Day“ and also set up a petition for that cause.
Along with the campaign a music video “Children of Evolution” was produced and published on YouTube.

Bus campaign in Germany
Posted on May 16th, 2009 8 comments
The atheist ad campaign promoting a fulfilled life without a god via ads on busses which originally started in Britain has gone global and reached Germany as well. The initial plan to put ads on public transport busses sadly had to be abandoned. Transport authorities in now all major cities throughout Germany have rejected the ads with at best questionable excuses. The EVAG in Essen, the only city originally accepting the ads has withdrawn their agreement after reciving plenty of protests from the public. Other advertising clients threatened to no longer advertise on public transports in case the atheist ads would be put on public busses in Essen. The message planed to be on the ads reads “Es gibt (mit an Sicherheit grenzender Wahrscheinlichkeit) keinen Gott. Ein erfülltes Leben braucht keinen Glauben. In English: “There is (almost certainly) no god. A fulfilled life needs no faith.”. Considering that this statement is in fact no more aggressive as a “Jesus lives!”, the rejection of the bus campaign shows clearly how low the tolerance in Germany towards people with an atheistic worldviews actually is.
However, the people from the german “Buskampagne” don´t give up that easily. A new plan was forged and now a bus will be rented, furnished with the ads and send on a 18 days journey through Germany, passing in (according to the current schedule) 27 cities. The Campaign sponsored by donations from people all over Germany has up to now reached almost 40.000€.
More infos and the opportunity to donate to the campaign are available on the official website of the campaign:
